We are a gospel-preaching church. The word “gospel” comes from the Greek word for “good news.” The message that we preach is not advice on how live a better life, or rules to keep in order to be accepted by God. The message that we preach is the good news that God has done everything necessary for the salvation of sinners in the Person and Work of His Son, Jesus Christ.
This news is “good” because Jesus has done what we are utterly unable to do – He earned our salvation for us! Unlike every other religion, the essential message of Christianity is not that we must do something so that God will save us, but that God has done something to save us. The Bible is, from beginning to end, “good news” that God has provided a Savior for helpless sinners, dead in our sin.
Jesus lived the sinless life that we could not, and died the cursed death that we deserved. By faith in Him, we become united to Him, partaking with Him in His death, burial, resurrection, and in His eternal life in glory! The Gospel is the best news in the world. It is the wonderful reality that God freely offers salvation from our sins, not by our own works or righteousness, but by faith in God’s Son who did everything necessary for us.
